When the date is fixed, it decides things: which stones can realistically be sourced, whether we modify a setting or build one, and where the approvals have to land. Most rings finish in 14–30 days, and the fast end of that belongs to the people who told me the date up front.

Most jewelers ask about the ring and get around to your timeline at the end. When the Navy owns your calendar, that order is backward. We start with the date, whether that is a deployment, a homecoming, or the one week of leave you actually have, and every decision after that gets made against it.

If the date genuinely cannot be met well, you will hear that on day one instead of week three. A rushed ring you settled for is a worse outcome than an honest conversation about what is possible.

Most of it works over text

The early decisions travel fine by phone. Inspiration photos, the shape, a budget range, the general direction of the setting. That matters when you are training, underway, or stationed somewhere that is not here. The whole process is built to run this way.

It means the in-person time gets saved for the part that actually needs your eyes, which is seeing stones next to each other and approving the design. People have sat down with me once between a workup and a deployment and left with every real decision made.

Where the finished ring waits

A military engagement ring often gets finished before the moment it's for, and a sea bag is nowhere to keep it. So it waits with me.
