Engagement Ring Buying Checklist

A good checklist keeps the decision focused. It prevents the common problem of falling in love with a photo and forgetting the practical decisions that make the ring work.

Before the appointment

Gather 3 to 8 photos, note what you like about each one, set a budget range, and decide whether the proposal date is flexible.

  • Preferred diamond shapes.
  • Natural, laboratory-grown, or open to comparing both.
  • Metal color preference.
  • Any lifestyle concerns.
  • Whether a flush wedding band matters.

During the appointment

Focus on the decisions that affect the final ring: center stone, setting style, profile, band width, diamond type, timeline, and production path.

Before approval

Confirm the diamond details, setting direction, timeline, next approval step, and what still needs to be verified.

Questions couples ask before the first appointment

Do I need to know ring size first?

It helps, but the first conversation can still begin with design and diamond direction.

How many photos should I bring?

Three to eight is usually enough. Too many can make the direction harder to read.

Text Andrew the ring style you keep coming back to.

A photo, sketch, or even a rough idea is enough to start. Andrew can usually tell you whether the smartest path is a sourced diamond, a modified setting, a CAD build, or a short call to compare options.
