Radiant cuts vary enormously in how they return light. Some show bold, defined flashes; others scatter light into hundreds of tiny points, the crushed-ice effect. Grading paperwork records neither, and online photos are shot to flatter. Depth is the other quiet variable. A deep radiant can hide a lot of its weight underneath, so a two-carat stone may face up smaller than you expect. I compare stones by their face-up measurements and spread, not by the carat number on the invoice.

The radiant’s cut corners make it more forgiving than a princess cut, but the setting still has decisions to make: four prongs or corner-hugging claws, a plain band or fine shoulders, and how much height the profile can afford.
