Andrew Gonzalez — Luxury Custom JewelerLuxury Custom Jewelerby Andrew Gonzalez

A small family business

Still a family business. Still just the two of us.

I’m Andrew Gonzalez. Jewelry is my family’s trade and has been for decades. I’ve spent more than thirty years in it, most of that buying and selling diamonds and gold inside the trade, and the custom work is the part I never wanted to give up. My son Ezra runs our marketing and everything online, which is the only reason you’re reading this instead of hearing about me from someone who already knows me. That’s the whole company. No investors, no sales floor, nobody whose paycheck depends on talking you into a bigger stone.

What gets decided

Nobody here has a quota.

There is no commission to split, no manager to check with, and no monthly number I have to hit. That isn’t a philosophy, it’s just the size of the business. What it means for you is that when I tell you to spend less, or to wait, or to buy the stone from the guy who already quoted you a better price, nothing bad happens to me.

01

What it actually changes

Family-owned shows up in a lot of advertising, so being skeptical of it is fair. Here is the practical version. When you sit down with me, you are sitting with the person who finds the stone, prices the job, and answers for it afterward. There is nobody above me to escalate to, because there is nobody above me.

  • No commission, so no reason to steer you toward a bigger stone.
  • The person who quotes the ring is the person who answers for it.
  • No inventory sitting in a case, so there is no stone I need you to buy.
  • I am at the same desk next year, for the band and whatever comes after it.

02

You can find us

My family has done business at the Jewelers Exchange downtown for decades, in the building where the trade buys and sells from itself. That is where we meet, by appointment, and it is why the sourcing works the way it does.

Ezra handles the part I was never going to be good at: the website, the marketing, the online side of things. He is not a jeweler and does not pretend to be one — it is his own line of work. He is the founder of Watch Dealer Websites, which builds sites for watch and jewelry dealers, and he works as a business marketing strategist for other small companies. It suits both of us. He keeps me findable, and I stay where I am useful, which is at the bench looking at stones.

The same standard, whoever it is for

The ring I am proudest of is the one-of-one I made for my daughter, and there is no photo of it anywhere. That is the standard for everything that leaves this desk: made for one person, built the way I would build it for my own family, and never handed over to be copied.

If you went looking for a small family jeweler because you wanted your ring handled that way, we are the same kind of particular about it.

I’ll admit the no-storefront thing made me hesitate. Then I met him at the Jewelers Exchange, watched half the floor greet him by name, and had a written quote and a simple contract the same day. Easiest big purchase I’ve ever made.

Questions couples ask before the first appointment

Is this really a family business?

Yes, and it is a small one. Jewelry is my family’s trade. I do the diamonds, the design, and the work; my son Ezra runs the marketing and the website. No investors, no parent company, no sales staff.

Why does that matter when I am buying a ring?

Because incentives shape advice. There is no commission here and no quota, so nothing happens to me if I tell you to spend less, wait a few weeks for a better stone, or take the other guy’s deal. You would be surprised how much that changes a conversation.

Does Ezra work on the rings?

No. He runs the marketing and everything online. The stones, the design, and the work are mine.

Do you only make engagement rings?

Engagement rings are most of it. The same process builds wedding bands, anniversary pieces, heirloom resets, and one-of-one jewelry that has nothing to do with getting married.

How do we start?

Text a photo of a ring you like to (619) 279-7738. We meet by appointment on the first floor of the Jewelers Exchange downtown.

Text Andrew the ring style you keep coming back to.

A photo, sketch, or even a rough idea is enough to start. I can usually tell you whether the smartest path is a sourced diamond, a modified setting, a CAD build, or a short call to compare options.
