Trends are easier to sell than to retire, so here is the other half. The very thin, very delicate band had a long run and is quietly losing ground, partly because a lot of them did not survive daily wear; a slightly more substantial band is both sturdier and currently more modern. My test is simple: strip the trend out of the ring in your head and see if you still like what remains. A hidden halo on a well-proportioned solitaire passes; remove it and the ring still stands. A ring that is only its trend does not pass.
